HGV Training Preston

Take a Driving Assessment first! - All Classes C1, C1E, C or CE

Whether you already hold a Class C (rigid) or you plan to go direct from Class B (car) to Class CE (Artic) we always recommend that you first come for a driving assessment.
The assessment lasts about an hour and 20 minutes and costs £60 inc.VAT. The assessment will inform us which course, A (some experience) - B (Standard) - C (Novice) is most suited to your ability in order to get you up to test standard.

As of Monday 15th November 2021, you can now go from a Car (Category B) licence, straight to Artic Category CE (class 1)

If you applied for your LGV provisional licence prior to 15th Nov 21' you will only have category C entitlement. In order to upgrade to category CE (Artic - Class 1) you will have to email the DVLA. Email: extraprovisional@dvla.gov.uk email DVLA your:

  • full name
  • date of birth
  • driving licence number

The DVLA will send you an automated email response. You will need to keep this email in order to take to your driving test.
If you’ve developed a medical condition or disability, changed your address or got new driving offences since your original application, you’ll need to apply for provisional entitlement again (you can contact our office for the forms). Please visit this link for more information https://www.gov.uk/adding-higher-categories-to-your... Anyone who applies for a provisional entitlement from 15th November 2021 onwards, will automatically get the C+E provisional entitlement.
