Take a Driving Assessment first! - All Classes C1, C1E, C or CE
Whether you already hold a Class C (rigid) or you plan to go direct from Class B (car) to Class CE (Artic) we always recommend that you first come for a driving assessment.
The assessment lasts about an hour and 20 minutes and costs £60 inc.VAT. The assessment will inform us which course, A (some experience) - B (Standard) - C (Novice) is most suited to your ability in order to get you up to test standard.
As of Monday 15th November 2021, you can now go from a Car (Category B) licence, straight to Artic Category CE (class 1)

Module 3 - The actual driving test will be split into 2 parts
Part 3A - Off-road element - Reversing (rigid vehicles) and Reversing and uncoupling/recoupling (vehicles with trailers) assessed by trained assessor or Driving and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) examiner
Part 3B - On-road element - Forward drive examined DVSA examiner
You must pass PART 3A (£40) before attempting PART 3B (£115) - The PART 3A test will usually take place just prior to the PART 3B test

Some trainees, particularly those going from Car (Cat B) direct to Artic (Cat CE) may be advised to attend a 5-day course e.g.
Occasionally we advise you to come for a longer assessment/training session (4hrs) before you commit to a course. This is to make sure we select the correct course to match your experience and ability.
A £300 deposit is required on booking. Course start times and fees may be adjusted to match DVSA test time.

OBTAINING A PROVISIONAL DRIVING LICENCE TO DRIVE...

Firstly...
You must have a full licence to drive a car - Group B. The next stage is to complete the forms required to apply for your provisional driving licence - D2 & D4 (available from LTS). D2 is about you and the provisional you want and D4 is a medical form that must be completed by a Doctor. Any Doctor can carry out the medical and this usually costs between £55 - £120. See Zosh Occupational Health When completed, forms D2 & D4 must be sent to DVLA, Swansea together with your ordinary driving licence. If all is well you should receive your new licence from the DVLA within about three weeks. Make sure you have been granted the provisional entitlement/s you applied for.
To obtain a FULL vocational driving licence you must then pass 4 modules

Module 1 - Theory Test.
The multi-choice test ( part 1a) pass mark is 85 out of 100 and the hazard perception (part 1b) pass mark is 67 out of 100. These tests can be taken together or separately, but you must pass both parts to receive a Theory Test Certificate. If both tests are taken together and one is failed, you only need to retake the failed part! Module 2 - Case Study.

Module 4 - Practical Daily Checks.
Module 4 is carried out at DVSA test centres and is all about daily checks, security of the load and passenger care, etc. You must pass module 2 before you can do module 4. LTS is an approved DVSA test centre. The fee for Module 4 is £275.00. This includes training, VAT and the test fee £55. Check out our MODULE 4 page You can drive an LGV/PCV for yourself after successful completion of modules 1 & 3. For example, a horse box to transport your own horse, but you must NOT drive ‘vocationally’ (get paid as a driver) until you have passed all 4 modules!
